Phoenix Jacks Up Hotel Rates in Response to Super Bowl

Attending the upcoming Super Bowl in Phoenix is going to be a pricey proposition for football fans who haven't yet scored a hotel room. In advance of the big kickoff at University of Phoenix Stadium on February 1, 2015, hotels in the greater Glendale area near Phoenix are raising their rates sky high. A new survey from CheapHotels.org has found that, on average, the overnight rates at accommodations in the region have quadrupled.
With just six weeks to go until game day, finding a hotel room will be the first challenge. Currently only about one in 10 hotels in the greater Phoenix region still have vacancies for the Super Bowl weekend of January 30 to February 2. Those that do have availability are more or less budget hotels. The vast majority of 4- and 5-star hotels are long sold out.
The limited few hotels that do have available rooms are responding to the scarcity by charging an average of 345% more than they usually do, the survey found. Nowhere will Super Bowl attendees find an available double room for $170 per night. And even then they'll have to be flexible and settle for a budget hotel near the Phoenix Airport. To secure a room in a more centrally located hotel, overnighters can anticipate a charge of $250.
And what about those on a tight budget? A few motels are still listing vacancies for under $100 per night. But the low price comes with a caveat. These accommodations all have very poor client evaluations. Therefore, CheapHotels.com cannot seriously recommended them.
The table that follows lists the 10 hotels in the Phoenix area with the highest price hikes for the upcoming 2015 Super Bowl. Super Bowl prices reflect nightly rates for the period spanning January 30 through February 2, 2015. Regular prices reflect rates for the same room one week later. The hotel rates shown were established on November 15, 2014 via the leading hotel booking websites.
