Research: Hotels rates in Phoenix for Super Bowl 2023
January 26, 2023Hotel rates in and around Phoenix have skyrocketed for this year’s Super Bowl according to research conducted by Cheaphotels.org.
With the prestigious NFL final set to take place at Phoenix’s State Farm stadium on February 12, 2023, the survey shows that fewer than 7% of hotels in the Phoenix metropolitan area have available rooms for the period around the event (February 10-13).
For the cheapest available room in downtown or Midtown Phoenix, and rated at least 3 stars, you will have to spend $899 per night – an increase of 285% when compared with regular prices.
Downtown Scottsdale, 12 miles east of Phoenix, is only slightly less expensive, with rooms starting art $799 per night over the same period. However, significantly cheaper options are available around Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport, as well as in the nearby city of Tempe and town of Guadalupe, where in both locations 3-star hotel rooms can still be booked for around $400 per night.
If you’re happy to settle for a budget hotel or motel, some rooms are still available in the suburbs of Phoenix for around $300 a night, or around the State Farm stadium from around $500 per night. However, such accommodation options do have rather poor average online customer ratings.
For a well-rated hotel at less than $200 per night, you would have to leave the Phoenix metropolitan area. In Downtown Prescott, for example, about a 90-minute drive from State Farm stadium, rooms are available for around $150 per night.
Overall, the survey found that available hotels in Phoenix are, on average, charging 185% more than their regular rates for the period February 10-13. However, certain hotels are hiking their rates by significantly more.
For example, a 3-star hotel in Midtown Phoenix is charging $1,100 a night for the Super Bowl weekend – an increase of over 400% compared with regular rates. The biggest increase unearthed by the survey is a 2-star hotel in West Phoenix, which is asking for $990 per night – an increase of almost 500%.
Compared with the last time Phoenix hosted the Super Bowl back in 2015, average rates for available 3-star hotel rooms are shown to be about 40% more expensive – clear evidence that Phoenix hotel rates will hit unprecedented highs on February 12.
Please note: For the purpose of comparison, hotel rates for the period February 24 to 27, 2023 were considered as "regular rates".
