Survey
The most expensive spring destinations in the United States
May 6, 2021The Floridian island city of Key West is the most expensive destination in the US for accommodation, this spring, a survey by Cheaphotels.org has revealed.
The survey looked at hotel rates for May 2021 in destinations all over America. For the purposes of the survey, only hotels rated 3 stars or more and situated near to a beach or city centre were considered.
Key West travellers will have to dig deep for at least $299 per night for a double room this spring, the survey showed. Just a fraction cheaper are two other Florida Keys – Islamorada and Marathon.
Elsewhere, in the state of Hawaii, the priciest destination for hotels this spring is Poipu, which emerged as the 4th most expensive destination overall with average rates of $245 per night. Poipu is joined by four other Hawaii destinations – Wailea, Lahaina and Waikoloa – in the top 10.
While renowned beach spots in Florida and Hawaii appear to be even pricier than pre-Covid times, hotel rate in most city destinations seem to have dropped substantially. In Boston, Austin, Charleston and Nashville, for example, all formerly listed among the most expensive spring destinations, average hotel rates are presently down by between 40 and 45%.

About the Methodology
The survey considered all destinations in the USA boasting a minimum of 20 hotels and inns. Only well-located hotels (in the city center or close to the beach) rated at least 3 stars and with positive overall average client ratings were considered. For each destination, the price for the cheapest available double room was established for the following periods: May 2–5, May 13–16, May 18–21 & May 23–26. An average nightly rate was then established for the period, resulting in the Top 20 most expensive destinations. Rates were established in mid-April based on research conducted on the hotel comparison website Kayak.Press Contact
