Nation's Most Expensive Ski Resort Is Beaver Creek
January 19, 2012
Skiers who are looking for a travel bargain might want to steer clear of Beaver Creek, Colorado. A recent survey compiled by Cheaphotels.org has found the Coloradoan ski resort to be the country's most expensive one for the month of February. When a comparison of lodging prices among the most popular ski resorts was performed, Beaver Creek easily topped the list, beating out the competition by a substantial margin.
A stay at the popular resort area, in fact, will run travelers more than $300 per night. The survey found the cheapest available room coming in, on average, at a daily rate of $314. To score a room in the Beaver Creek resort area on a Friday or Saturday night, visitors will have to be ready to pay $382.
Flexibility is key if saving money is part of the agenda. Ten minutes away from the famed Beaver Creek Village in Avon, rooms are going for under $150 per night but they are still an easy drive to the popular slopes.
Colorado ski resorts snagged seven of the slots on the top ten list, and five of the top six, with Aspen, Vail, Snowmass and Copper Mountain all posting rates above $150 in February. Just a hop, skip and jump away from Beaver Creek, the Vail resort secured the number four spot. At $200 per night, average available rooms there are 36% less expensive than Beaver Creek.
Colorado's celebrity hot spot, Aspen, expectedly came in high on the list at number three. The average daily rate for a room there during the second month of the year is $212.

About the Methodology:
The survey was conducted on January 16-17. For all ski resorts in the USA, the price for the cheapest available double room (minimum: 2-star hotel) was established for all days in February.
This determination was based on a search of the leading hotel-booking sites: Expedia, Priceline and Orbitz. Only those hotels located less than two miles from the specified ski resort were considered.
