Research: Hotel Rates in San Francisco for J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference

Hotel Rates in San Francisco have skyrocketed for the upcoming JP Morgan Healthcare Conference, a survey by Cheaphotels.org has revealed.

The 42 nd edition of the annual conference, which takes place at the city’s Moscone Center on January 8-11, will once again see global leaders, emerging companies, technology creators and investors assemble for the largest health care investment symposium in the industry.

For the cheapest available double room rated at least 3 stars, visitors will have to spend at least $425 on January 8, the opening day of the conference. Compared to regular rates during a typical January, that’s an increase of over 300%.

A number of hotels have hiked their rates by significantly more: One four-star hotel in Fisherman’s Wharf is charging $1,000 for a queen room on January 8 – an increase of almost 400% compared to regular rates. Another three-star hotel near Union Square is charging $720 for a standard double room – a hike of 525%.

On January 9, rooms are available in the city from $359, while January 7 and January 10 are slightly more affordable, with minimum rates of $207 and $256, respectively. The survey considered all hotels rated at least 3 stars and located in one of San Fran’s central neighbourhoods, from Pacific Heights in the northwest, to Central Waterfront in the Southeast.

Anyone seeking a cheaper hotel room during the conference are likely to find one in Oakland or around San Francisco Airport. In both areas there are rooms available from around $150 per night.

According to Paul Joseph from Cheaphotels.org, hotel rates in San Francisco are likely to reach their annual peak for the conference. However, similar levels may be seen for Dreamforce, the annual conference hosted by Salesforce which takes place each September.

Slightly more affordable are hotels for the RSA Conference, one of the world's leading cybersecurity conferences. Rooms are currently still available for below $200 during the event, which is scheduled for May 6-9 this year.
