The most expensive US destinations for Presidents Day

Updated: February 10, 2020

Lahaina and Wailea, both located on the island of Maui in Hawaii, are the United States' most expensive destinations to spend the Presidents’ Day weekend this year. That's the result of the latest survey conducted by Cheaphotels.org, which compared U.S. destinations according to their hotel rates for Feb. 14–17 (Presidents' Day weekend).

In Lahaina, hotel room rates start at $527 per night for the most affordable double room. In Wailea, rates are slightly more affordable, starting at $499 per night. Across the survey, only hotels rated 3 stars or higher and located close to the beach or city center were included.

The third most-expensive destination over Presidents’ Day weekend is located on the other side of the country, in Florida. Fort Myers Beach offers starting rates of $494 for the least expensive rooms in the destination.

Another Hawaiian destination, Poipu, ranks fourth most-expensive, with rates starting at $445. A ski resort also lands on the list, with the most affordable available rooms in Vail starting at $416.

Only well-located hotels (city center, close to beach or near ski lifts) rated at least 3 stars and with positive overall average client ratings have been considered. Rates were established on February 1, 2020 based on research conducted on the hotel comparison website Kayak.
