The most expensive New Years Eve Destinations in the World
Updated: December 28, 2021Miami Beach in South Florida is the world’s most expensive destination on New Year's Eve this year, a new survey reveals.
The survey by CheapHotels.org compared hotel prices in 50 major cities across the world. For each destination, the rate for the most affordable available double room for a 3-night stay from December 30 - January 2 was documented. Only centrally-located hotels rated at least three stars and with broadly positive guest reviews were considered.
With a nightly rate of $365 for the cheapest room, Miami Beach came out top. Two more US cities, New Orleans and Nashville, make up the top three, with rates of $304 and $284, respectively, for the most affordable room.
The popular Mexican tourist destination of Cancun is the priciest city outside of the US, with a rate of $228 per night, putting it in 5th place overall. The Scottish capital of Edinburgh ($221) is the most expensive European city, while Rio de Janeiro ($206) in Brazil came out as the priciest destination in Latin America.
The survey also demonstrates how the Coronavirus pandemic is still impacting heavily on hotel rates across the world. In Dubai and Sydney, both of which were among the priciest destinations for New Year’s Eve back in pre-pandemic 2019, rates are between 40-50% lower this year. In Hong Kong, prices have been driven down even further, by up to a striking 70%.
