The most expensive New Years Eve Destinations in the World

December 26, 2025

Travelers planning to ring in the New Year should brace themselves for steep hotel prices, particularly in Miami Beach. A new study from Cheaphotels.org identifies the Florida hotspot as the costliest place in the world for accommodation on New Year’s Eve.

The analysis reviewed hotel pricing in 60 major cities around the globe. For each destination, researchers tracked the lowest available rate for a double room over a three-night stay spanning December 30 through January 2. The survey focused exclusively on centrally located properties with a minimum three-star rating.

At $1,187 for the most affordable qualifying room, Miami Beach claimed the top spot. That figure represents a dramatic 197% increase compared with typical hotel prices in January, making New Year’s Eve stays there especially expensive.

Close behind are Rio de Janeiro and New York City, which rank second and third. Travelers can expect to pay $1,172 in Rio de Janeiro and $1,164 in New York City for a three-night stay over the holiday period.

Within Europe, Edinburgh and Vienna stand out as the priciest destinations. Edinburgh placed fourth overall with rates reaching $1,040, while Vienna secured sixth place at $994.

Compared with the last edition of the survey in 2022 , hotel prices for New Year’s Eve have surged most sharply in Bangkok, where rates are up 94%. Significant increases were also recorded in Copenhagen, which saw a 72% jump, and Vienna, where prices climbed 63%.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is Phnom Penh. Hotel rates there have fallen by more than 60% compared with three years ago. At just $20 per night, the Cambodian capital is the most affordable city in the survey for celebrating New Year’s Eve.

The following table compares hotel rates in 60 destinations around the world on New Year’s Eve this year. Prices shown reflect the rate of the cheapest available double room for the period December 30 – January 2 (3 nights). For each city, the price increase compared to regular rates in January is included in brackets. More info on the methodology used for the survey can be found below.

About the Methodology

For 60 global cities, the rate for the cheapest available double room was established for the period December 30 to January 2 (3 nights). Rates were compiled during mid-December using three leading hotel booking websites. Only well-located hotels (close to downtown, the main tourist district or the beach) rated at least 3 stars (or 4 stars for select destinations) were considered. All hotel rates given include taxes and fees. For comparison purposes, rates at each hotel based on a 3-night stay from January 13-16 were also recorded using the same criteria. Please note: hotel rates can fluctuate significantly in both directions, and prices in certain destinations may vary depending on the day of booking.
