The most expensive New Years Eve desinations in Canada, for hotel stays
December 28, 2022The municipality of Mont-Tremblant, home to Quebec’s largest ski resort, is the priciest destination in Canada for hotel stays this New Year's Eve, a Cheaphotels.org survey has revealed.
The survey compared the price of accommodation on the night of December 31 in a total of 20 Canadian destinations. For each destination, the rate for the cheapest available double room was identified. Only central hotels with three stars or more and generally strong guest reviews were considered.
Mont-Tremblant came out as the leader by a sizeable margin with a rate of C$ 880 for the cheapest room. Compared to normal winter rates, that’s a hike of almost 300%. Whistler, North America’s biggest ski resort, emerged as the second most expensive destination with a rate of C$ 658, while Banff completes the top three with a rate of C$ 563.
Hefty price increases for New Year's Eve this year were also seen in Niagara Falls and Halifax, which rank fourth and fifth with rates of C$ 465 and C$ 422, respectively. Looking at Canada’s largest cities, Toronto (C$ 375) and Vancouver (C$ 325) came out as the priciest, while Calgary (C$ 175) and Ottawa (C$ 193) were notably cheaper.
The table below compares 20 destinations in Canada for hotels this New Year's Eve. The prices shown next to each destination reflect the rate for the cheapest available double room in a centrally-located hotel, rated 3 stars or more. A comparison with regular winter rates is also shown in brackets.
Rates were compiled during mid-December using the hotel comparison website Kayak.
