The Most Expensive Destinations in New England

Updated: July 23, 2015

Provincetown, a scenic beach town off the tip of Massachusetts’ Cape Cod, has just earned the distinction of being the priciest destination in New England this summer. The latest survey from CheapHotels.org came to this conclusion after comparing the hotel rates for 30 of New England’s most popular destinations. The main summer travel period of July 1 to August 31, 2015 served as the basis of comparison.

In coming up with the rankings, the survey compared the average cost of staying in each location’s cheapest available double room. That being the case, the prices mentioned reflect the minimum amount summer travelers can expect to pay to stay overnight at a certain destination. The survey excluded those hotels with less than a 2-star rating and those that are not centrally located.

The average amount Provincetown visitors will have to spend on a double room this summer is $247 nightly. Trailing just behind in the survey’s number two and three slots are Kennebunkport, Maine and Newport, Rhode Island. There, overnight guests can anticipate an average bill of $234 and $226 per night respectively.
