The Most Expensive Summer Destinations in Florida

July 14, 2022

Pensacola Beach, a barrier island anchored at the western tip of Florida, is the priciest summer destination in the Sunshine State for hotel stays this year, according to a survey by Cheaphotels.org.

The survey compared accommodation rates across 40 popular Florida destinations. For each destination, the price for the cheapest available double room during July and August was recorded. Only hotels situated near a beach or in the city/town centre, and with 3 stars or more, were considered for the survey results.

With an average rate of $295 per night for the cheapest double room, Pensacola Beach came out on top of the board. Second and third were Fort Walton Beach and Anna Maria Island, with rates of $258 and $245, respectively, for the most affordable available room.

The survey also showed that the majority of destinations in southern Florida are substantially cheaper in summer than in winter, in some cases dropping by more than 50%. Still on the pricier end, however, are the Florida Keys, where you’ll need to pay around $200 for the cheapest room.

The least expensive destination in Florida this summer is Miami Beach, where rooms are available from around $100 per night. That’s 60% lower than prices during February. Other affordable summer destinations with comparable rates include Port St Lucie, Hollywood and the state capital of Tallahassee.

About the Methodology

The survey considered 40 popular destinations across Florida. For each destination, the average price for the cheapest available double room was established for the period July 1 to August 31, 2022. Rates were compiled during late June using hotel comparison websites. Only hotels rated at least 3 stars and located close to a beach or in downtown were considered for the survey.
