Among Houston’s wide choice of accommodation options are several budget hotels – and we’ve picked out three of our favourites below.
The three hotels we’ve selected span the length and breadth of Houston. The first, Heritage Place Houston Brookhollow, can be found in the North Loop district in the north-western reaches of the city, while the second, Scott Inn & Suites, is situated in Downtown, close to many of the city’s main attractions and entertainment spots. Our final pick, Drury Inn & Suites Houston Galleria, is uptown, an area renowned for its shopping. Together, these three hotels offer plenty of variety in terms of location, but with similarly affordable rates.

A year-round outdoor pool set in a pretty courtyard-style layout, a lounge area, meeting rooms and a well-equipped fitness centre are among the amenities at this contemporary 3-star hotel. Guest rooms feature a bright, modern interior and come with a dedicated workspace, flat-screen TV and private bathroom, while suites also have a microwave for quick and easy in-room meals. For guests arriving in their own transport, there’s also free on-site parking.
Situated in Houston’s northwest borders, about 9 miles from the city’s Downtown district, the hotel is well positioned for travellers keen to be based away from the main hustle and bustle. Close to the hotel are wooded areas and green space near White Oak Bayou, and you’re also within easy reach of shopping and business areas.

When it comes to guest reviews, the hotel has an average rating of 8.1 out of 10 across various categories – or ‘Very Good’ in layman’s terms. The best rated aspect of the hotel is its staff, although the free WiFi appears to disappoint many guests, presunably due to a lack of reliability. From $70 per night.
Scott Inn & Suites

The Scott Inn & Suites is a no-frills hotel with clean but comfortable and well-equipped guest rooms. Each of the air-conditioned rooms comes with a work desk, a microwave and a fridge, and most also contain a flat-screen TV. Family rooms are available, as well as singles and doubles. Elsewhere in the hotel, there’s free on-site parking.
The hotel is located in Houston’s Downtown district, pleacing guests either within walking distance or a short drive from some of the city’s most renowned attractions, landmarks and places of interest, including its theatres, museums, sports venues and other entertainment spots. You’re also well-located for accessing Houston’s public transport system, providing easy access to the rest of the city and beyond.

Average guest ratings also give this hotel a mark of 8.0 out of 10, which lands it a ‘Very Good’ accreditation across categories. Comfort is the most appreciated feature, pointing towards a good night’s sleep for most guests. However, as with out last recommended hotel, WiFi appears to be on the intermittent side based on reviews. From $75 per night.

A large modern lobby greets guests arriving at this mid-range hotel – and the positive first impressions continue as you explore its confines. There’s an outdoor pool and hot tub, a fitness centre, meeting rooms and complimentary food and drinks served in the lobby are each evening. Guest rooms are no less impressive, each designed and furnished in contemporary style and equipped with a microwave, fridge and coffee-maker. For travellers keen to bring their furry companions, pet-friendly rooms are also available.
The hotel combines all of its enticing amenities with a prime location on West Loop South, close to the Galleria shopping mecca in the city’s Uptown district. Other notable attractions including Memorial Park and surrounding green spaces are also nearby, while the perpetual buzz and activity of Downtown is around 8 miles away.

Leaving aside its facilities, if you’re judging a hotel on guest reviews alone, this is the stand-out option on our list, with an average score of 8.9 out of 10 across categories – enough to land it ‘Fabulous’ status. The staff get the highest plaudits, and once again it is WiFi that brings up the rear – perhaps it’s a Houston thing? From $105 per night.
