Charleston Tops USA’s Most Expensive Spring Destinations
April 7, 2015Charleston has just earned the distinction of being the most expensive destination in the United States in which to stay overnight this spring. That’s the finding of the latest survey from CheapHotels.org, which used the cost of lodging in all U.S. destinations during the month of April 2015 as its comparative basis.
In coming up with the rankings, the survey specifically compared the cost of the lowest-priced available double room for each destination. As a result, the prices shown reflect the minimum amount a guest can expect to pay this April. It bears pointing out that the survey considered only hotels and inns with a central location, an overall rating of 2 stars or more and a positive average client evaluation.
To stay overnight in the least expensive double room in South Carolina’s second largest city, a traveler to Charleston this April will encounter an average nightly rate of $221. Following closely on its heels in second place is Key West, Florida, where visitors will pay an average of $219 to spend the night. The Florida Keys is home to another pricey spring travel destination. Islamorada completes the survey’s Top 3, coming in with an average rate of $203 per night for the most affordable double room.
The Top 10 is also populated with the cities of Nashville, Boston and New Orleans. Three other beach destinations also join them there: Santa Monica, California, Tybee Island in Georgia and St. Pete Beach in Florida.

About the Methodology
For every destination in the USA with a minimum of 20 regular hotels or inns, the price for the cheapest available double room was established for the following time periods: April 1–5, April 8–12, April 15–19 and April 22–26, 2015. Based on this data, an average price was calculated for each destination, resulting in the aforementioned rankings. Only such hotels or inns rated 2 stars or higher and with a TripAdvisor rating of at least "Good" were included in the survey. Moreover, only such hotels located in or less than one mile from the city center/beach were considered for the respective destinations. All prices were established between March 15 and March 20, 2015 via the hotel comparison website Kayak.Press Contact
