Memphis Comes in Second among Most Expensive U.S. Destinations to Ring in New Year

Out-of-town celebrators who want to ring in the New Year in Memphis, Tennessee better make sure they bring a thick wallet. A new survey from CheapHotels.org has uncovered that the home of Elvis's Graceland is the number two most expensive destination to herald in 2013 in terms of staying overnight there.
After establishing the minimum rate guests will have to pay to stay in a centrally located 3-star hotel in 30 U.S. destinations this December 31st, Memphis came in at position number two. A nightly rate of $309 for the most affordable double room secured this ranking. As might be expected, only New York City posted a more costly New Year's Eve rate of $376.
Rounding out the top three was Atlantic City, New Jersey. There, hotel guests can expect to pay at least $299 for a room. Another Tennessee destination, Nashville, also finished in the top 10. A nightly rate of $179 for the most affordable 3-star hotel room landed it in the tenth spot on the survey.
The following table compares New Year's Eve hotel rates for 30 destinations in the USA. The prices shown reflect the rates for the cheapest available double room in a centrally located 3-star hotel. The rates were established on December 19, 2012 based on research conducted on the various leading hotel-booking sites.
